The Patient Safety Initiative builds on the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's 100,000 Lives Campaign and 5 Million Lives Campaign. It provides a statewide focus on reducing patient harm and adverse events, ensuring the delivery of safe care through improved processes, systems of care, and improved communication.
The Patient Safety Initiative is currently focusing on the following topics:

- Medication Reconciliation
- High Alert Medications
- Rapid Response Systems
- Surgical Safety Checklist
