Next IHC Node Work Day Set for August 26 in Ames

The IHC Node Work Day provides a forum for health care professionals to come together and share their experiences on working towards a safer environment for patients, families and staff. The next work day will be held on August 26 at the Scheman Building on the Iowa State Center campus in Ames. Advances in patient safety have been achieved by the use of guidelines, protocols and evidence-based medicine and sharing of best practices.

The day will begin with update of the activities involved in implementing the campaign initiatives from a state and national level. Kathy Duncan, will be returning to discuss the initiatives that are reducing the occurrences of pressure ulcers across the country. Loreen Herwaldt, M.D., CQSPI, will kick off the afternoon presenting on MRSA surveillance, prevention and treatment.

There will be two sections of breakout sessions, a change from past work days. In the morning attendees will have the opportunity to attend the pressure ulcer, medication reconciliation, rapid response team, stroke and healthcare associated infection cluster groups. In the afternoon the cardiovascular, surgical, MRSA and high alert medications will be meeting. The separation of the clusters should make it easier for those that are implementing multiple interventions.

Mark your calendar and plan to attend the IHC Node Work Day on August 26. Registration materials will be mailing in June for this work day, information will also be available on the IHC Web site.
