Toolkits

Several areas of the IHC 2006 Work Plan will be addressed through the development of toolkits. These toolkits will be built to have a physical model deployed to each hospital in the state. Distribution to physicians and physician groups will vary with the toolkit. Most of these resources will also be available on the IHC website.

Though each toolkit varies in configuration, they will have the following basic components:
  • A Case for Change - This will answer the following questions: What is the problem? What should we do to address it? What is available to help?
  • National Guidance and Parameters - IHC will be working toward convergence, application of national initiatives, and the best evidence-based medicine.
  • Tools - Provide specific techniques, processes, definitions, etc. that create a positive change in health care delivery. (For example, a standardized statewide model for Med Cards, techniques to implement a Culture of Safety, or the IHI monograph on applications of Lean to healthcare.)
  • Success Stories and Mentors - Who is doing this in Iowa? How is it working? How can we learn from each other?
  • Resources - Supporting articles and information.
IHC hopes to deploy toolkits in August and September of 2006. Toolkits under construction include:
  • Anticoagulation
  • Medication Reconciliation
  • Health Literacy
  • Culture of Safety
  • Healthcare-Associated Infections
  • Lean in Healthcare
