Clinical Health Coach Training

The primary component of the Clinical Health Coach training is a flexible, web-based, 27-hour online learning experience available at the convenience of your clinical staff members with no travel required. CEUs and CMEs are offered. The training also provides four optional one hour teleclass practice sessions to aid in the development of effective coaching skills. The teleclasses build a base for that practice, and buddy coaching with other experienced coaches or others enrolled in the training is highly recommended.

Compass PTN recommends that participants receive 2-3 hours of protected time week each week to spend on the web-based training. This will assist the participant to complete the training within the 8-10 week timeframe, and will also convey to the participant that their leadership feels that this role is important and is committed to their success.

Additional information about the Clinical Health Coach training may be found at (link).

Continuing Education

An added program value comes from the CEUs or CMEs provided. Typically, this training provides nursing CEUs at 31.2 hours and CMEs of AMA PRA Category I Credits at 26.1. The credits are provided to healthcare professionals from all states through the Interstate Postgraduate Medical Association and the California Board of Registered Nursing. Enrollees may wish to verify with their state licensing Board which is most appropriate to acquire.

Certificate of Competency in Clinical Health Coaching

Once participants successfully complete the online portion of the Clinical Health Coach training, they are eligible to earn a Certificate of Competency in Clinical Health Coaching. The Certificate of Competency is earned by receiving a passing score of 70% on three multiple choice examinations provided through the web-based course experience and achieving a passing score on a Competency Evaluation.

The Competency Evaluation is a 15-minute telephonic coaching encounter with a standardized patient in a clinical scenario.  Detailed information regarding the Competency Evaluation is provided in the online learning portal. Competency Evaluation coaching conversations are recorded and evaluated by an experienced third party coach/evaluator.

Compass PTN requires that participants take the competency evaluation. If the participant does not pass and would like to take the evaluation again, Compass will not pay the $100 fee for the retake. Whether or not the participant passes the evaluation, they will benefit from gaining insightful feedback on their performance.
